It's a crazy life.. for us

It's down to 3 weeks before the semester is over.. and that means massive amounts of homework piled on- not to mention still dealing with custody stuff. Mediation is scheduled for the day before the last day of the semester.. during a final exam- SO, we are going to have to reschedule that. Hopefully we can get it out of the way before June, but you never know with the court system. I'm trying to not think ahead of Mediation, because if we go to court, that will fill my summer and next semester with stress- since THAT is such a long process as well.

But onto more pleasant things:

This weekend we did alot of rummage sale shopping, and got a lot of great birthday gifts for peanut. He was especially excited about a few new puzzles and a toddler helmet for the bike trailer. I've really got to start biking him more places.. he really loves the trailer now. He's always asking me to take him in it :)

I'm thinking about clearing some space in the garage for the small sandbox that is currently at my mom's house. She got Killian a big swing set, and is nailing some boards around it, and will fill it with sand, for a HUGE sandbox. SO.. she gave me the suggestion of finding a corner in my garage for the small turtle sandbox, and Killian can play with it on rainy days (he is in LOVE with sandboxes). I'm also taking the smaller slide, but that I can pull out onto our driveway/grass whenever we're playing outside. This summer is going to be lots of fun, now that Killian is walking/running all the time. :)

He's is really starting to get his letter recognition as well. He's got M for Momma down pat, S for "woo woos" or Stubby and Stella, and K for Killian. I've tried a few new ones.. but he just likes to point out the three that he really knows. He sees "M momma" everywhere now.. and he thinks all w's are mommas as well. He is really my smart little munchkin. He had lots of fun playing outside at Gammy's today- and getting lots of attention inside from Aunt Mary, Gammy and Mary's Boyfriend Josh.

The last couple of nights have been rough, because Killian's been waking up in the middle of the night, and coming into my bed, then getting up at 515- for the day! And I'm the first to admit.. I'm not a pleasant person when I'm still tired. I have very little patience for anyone. I'm really hoping tonight isn't a repeat of the last few nights, because I have a busy, busy day ahead of me tom.

I'm going to try and get some photos up this week/weekend of Killian's new skills such as drinking from an open cup, playing with a marble tunnel set, and watching bugs grow from sponges. :)

Killian's Blankie

I've always loved writing, and I've been told I have a knack for it. Cheerios is having a children's book contest for unpublished authors. SO...  I thought I'd enter. I'll probably enter multiple stories, but here's one that I finished up today. I'm sure you can all figure out who it's written for :)
Sitting on his mama’s lap, Killian explained why his blankie couldn’t go into the special box.
“Mama, it’s not just a blankie that I love when I’m sad. No, it’s my pirate ship sail. See?”

And all day long Killian’s blankie was his pirate ship sail. It caught the gusts of wind and blew him to a treasure island and back again, just in time for supper and bed.

The next morning, Killian woke up to a surprise. His mama had sewn him a pirate ship sail from an old sheet. She sat him down and said, “Killian, now blankie doesn’t need to be the pirate ship sail anymore. It’s time for blankie to go into your special box.”

But Killian told her, “But mama, blankie isn’t just a blanket that I love when I’m sad. No, it’s my superhero cape too. See?”

And all day long Killian’s blankie was a superhero cape. It flew him around the city, where he helped women carry in groceries, clean up the house, and rescue cats from trees, and his cape brought him back home again just in time for supper and bed.

The next morning, Killian woke up to another surprise. His mama had sewn him a bright blue superhero cap, with a gold K on the back. She sat him down and said, “Killian, now blankie doesn’t need to be a superhero cape anymore. It’s time for blankie to go into your special box.”

And Killian started to cry, snuggling up to his mom. He told her, “But mama, blankie isn’t just a blanket that I love when I’m sad, or a pirate ship sail, or a superhero cape. No, blankie is my comfort. He smells like you and our house. If I’m scared or I miss you, I can snuggle him up to my face, breathe in, and I know everything’s going to be ok. So blankie can’t go into the special box.”

Killian’s mama held him tight to her and rocked him back and forth for a long time. Then she spoke, “Killian, if you are scared, sad, or you miss me, you can close your eyes and imagine my face. You can imagine my smell and our house. Then you will know that everything will be ok, because you know how much I love you.”

Killian was quiet for a long time. He had his eyes closed and was imagining his mother’s smiling face and open arms. He breathed in and imagined her smell. He was sad to see blankie go, but he knew that he was old enough to do it.

The next day Mama and Killian took down his special box that contained all the special parts of his life, like his first shirt and his first shoes. Killian snuggled blankie into his face, took a deep breath, and put blankie inside gently. He whispered good-bye to his friend who had been his comfort when he was sad, his pirate ship sail and his superhero cape.

Update on our life

Well, I'm sitting here trying to tackle the mountain of homework I have to do, and I decide to write a post. Typical of me I guess. I just realized that I've only posted 2 in April, and it's already more than half way gone. I guess I keep waiting for photos to post... but I never take any- so I'll just update now. Sorry for the visually unpleasant :)

So- update on Killian's development:
My baby boy is FINALLY progressing in his language. He's putting together two words :) Mostly it's "hi ___" for who ever he's saying hi to, and "bye, bye ___" but it's an improvement :) He's still not great with his spontaneous words.. but I'm happy to see some improvement. Of course it comes right after I make an appointment with a speech therapist, who's coming on Thursday to evaluate him. But, if Murphy's Law is what has to happen to get my little one to move forward, I'm happy to look like the crazy mom.

Update on our crazy court situation:
We had court this morning, and basically it's the same as it has been, but now I'm getting child support. However, we are going to mediation, and probably court- all depending on his father. I will not do what's not in Killian's best interest, so if his father decides to agree with a plan that is good for Killian, then hopefully we can put court behind us.. otherwise I'm in for a LONG road ahead of us. I just SOO SOO hope that Killian makes it through. He's already having a hard time, and we're only at stage 1 of this process. Please send your thoughts over to our family. I'm not sure how much more of Killian's heart ache I can handle.

Update on school:
I officially won 6 scholarships :) That will go a long way of hopefully no student loans next year. I only have 4 more weeks of this semester, then a 3 week interim, then a 1 week course, then a 4 week course, then summer :) Okay.. it's still a long time away, but I'm just focusing on the four weeks of this semester, because I know the other 8 weeks will zoom by.

Update on Stella:
She's naughty. Let's just leave it there (oh, but she has wormed her way into our hearts. The naughty little thing).

Well I think that's enough updates... I need to get back to self-evaluating. As a future teacher, I should be more than used to self-evaluations, but it's never easy to find the good and bad in yourself and display it for others.

Weekend fun

Well.. Killian and I sure had alot of fun this weekend. Saturday morning was our usual.. though we had to go to a new place for lunch, because our cafe was WAY too crowded. After his nap, we went to monkey joes with his father.. and Killian was worn out from an hour and a half of nonstop jumping/running. We came home for a quiet evening of just the two of us <3

This morning we had a rough day for listening.. but we went for a nice long walk with a friend and her beautiful son. Killian enjoyed getting out of the stroller at one point and helping me push. When it got too annoying for me, he happily lagged behind playing with sticks. After a 45 min. nap in his stroller, we headed over to my moms. Killian rode the horse, helped groom his pony, played on his swing set, played in his sand box, played with pebbles, and played with my sister... yes we spent ALOT of time outside. And, I have to admit to being a very bad mom and forgetting sunscreen... he got sunburned on his little head :( I think I got the worse sun burn though, my arms, chest, and face burn even as I type this, 5 hours later. Needless to say, it was early to bed for him.

Tom. is a long day at daycare, because I'm volunteering through the bookworm organization. I love it, and it's the perfect amount of time. A couple hours one monday each month. I can def. handle that :) This next week is going to be a crazy busy one for me... Group presentations, volunteering, an appointment for me, and an appointment for Killian, supervised visitation, a concert on tuesday for a class, a baby shower on saturday (squeezed into more supervised visitation), and next monday I have court, a test, and another group presentation at an after school program. MAN!! I will be happy when it's next tuesday.

On a happier note.. my friend and I receive our first MEAT CSA package this tuesday :):):) YAY. Speaking of my friend Lindsy.. she's the one who made the adorable shirts in my 20 mon. photo shoot.. and she has a website up and running. Check it out!!

Easter Activities

Well the weekend has only been one day so far, but we've had quite the adventure the last couple of days. AND, I actually have some photos this time :) On Thursday night, we went over to my dads to color easter eggs... Killian really enjoyed water coloring his... and liked to do it on his Aunt's lap :) Afterwards, Killian realized that there is a hot tub at my dad's house, and of course, had to go in it... naked :) He LOVED it, when I dragged him out (past his bedtime), he was quite mad at me. Last night, he was such a big boy and helped me clean up the house :)
Today, we colored Easter eggs:

He was so good about taking the eggs in and out of the cups of color :)
Then.. we made an edigle bird feeder for the birds from a toilet paper roll, peanut butter, sunflower seeds, and raisins. Killian had alot of fun:
I put a string on it and hung it from our porch. We'll have to watch every day to see if it gets eaten.
Killian also liked to watercolor with new watercolor markers that we got today:
Then finally, we played out side. I bought Killian a convertible car for the outside earlier this week.. and Killian will play with it for hours!
Weirdly enough, this isn't a grimace, it's a "cheese" smile.
Killian also colored with sidewalk chalk for the first time!
Finally, we took the dogs for a short walk, here is Killian and Stella running together :)

I'm SO excited for Killian to go for an easter egg hunt tom. morning :) I'll post photos when I can :)
